We’re underway on the 3rd with an appearance by Richard Gillis, leader of the Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra and a tasty trumpet soloist. With the WJO Richard of necessity has to keep his solos fairly brief. But in the trio setting featured at Resto Gare Richard has space to stretch out and demonstrate what an excellent player he is!
Coincidentally, on July 10th we feature another leading light of the Winnipeg Jazz Orchestra, Associate Director Neil Watson. In addition to his work putting concert presentations together and doing one hundred and one other jobs that help keep the Orchestra moving forward, Neil is an excellent saxophonist, a featured soloist with the WJO and other groups around town. He specializes on the alto, but we’ve heard him play tenor, soprano and even clarinet!
The 17th sees another visit by our house band, led by Resto Gare’s Music Guy Brian Chipney. Brian plays soprano saxophone and hangs out with only the best ….. Rick Boughton on piano and Steve Hamilton on bass. The trio plays swinging mainstream jazz of the Basie/Lester Young/Bird variety.
Helen White joins us on July 24th. Helen sings, plays piano, and is an all-around entertainer. If you feel like singing along, please do so! Helen also takes part in our Friday night piano jazz soirees.
All good things must come to an end and July is no exception! We have Rosemarie Todaschuk coming in on the 31st. Rosemarie is a Resto Gare favorite who always manages to put together a program of wonderful standards from the Great American Songbook. Take a Sentimental Journey with Rosemarie! You’ll be happy you did!!
The music gets underway at 6:30 p.m. each Wednesday and goes through 8:30. Our patio is the favoured locale for jazz, but on the evenings when the elements conspire against us the bands move into our dining room. You don’t strictly need a reservation, but it’s always a good idea to have one! Call us at 204-237-7072 to reserve your table or to get more information. Plenty of free parking available in the lot next to our historic and extremely genuine train car! The best in jazz and the best in dining await you each Wednesday evening at Resto Gare!
