Jazz Lineup

The swinging sounds of jazz haven’t been heard at Resto Gare since way back in October of 2020. We’d hoped to get our season underway in May of this year, but the third wave put an end to that. Now, thanks to the diligence of Manitobans in being vaccinated, the time is finally right ……… “Jazz at the Station” is back! We’ll be closed on July 1st, but starting on July 8th Winnipeg’s finest jazz musicians will be at Resto Gare to play for you!!

Our season begins on July 8th with one of the surprise hits of the 2020 “Jazz at the Station” season, the brother and sister duo Gen + Tonic. Genevieve Frenet is one really terrific singer! Along with brother Pierre on guitar and vocals she’ll present a wide-ranging program featuring material drawn from various genres of music. If you don’t yet know the wonders of Gen + Tonic, come on down and hear what they have to offer! You won’t be disappointed.

On the 15th we’ll feature the Brian Chipney/Chenoa McKelvey Duo, or as we like to call them, Chipney & Chenoa. Brian is of course the producer of “Jazz at the Station”. He’ll be here with his soprano saxophone while the wonderful Chenoa will be alongside on guitar. They’ve both been known to sing a tune now and then. If you dig the swinging sounds of mainstream jazz you’ll enjoy Chipney & Chenoa!

July 22nd will be a special night at Resto Gare! Our honoured guest will be the incredible guitarist Ron Halldorson. Ron first rose to international prominence as the bass player with Lenny Breau and has long established himself as a brilliant guitarist in his own right. We’ll hear Ron on this evening in the intimate duo setting, surely the best way to enjoy this legendary player. With capacity limits in place on the amount of seating available, you’ll want to make your reservations early to hear Ron Halldorson at Resto Gare!

We conclude the first month of the season on the 29th with the Rosemarie Todaschuk Duo. Rosemarie is one of the annual favorites in the “Jazz at the Station” series. This outstanding vocalist will take you on a “sentimental journey” through the Great American Songbook. If you’ve heard Rosemarie before, you’ll know that she never disappoints! It’s always a pleasure to include her in the “Jazz at the Station” schedule!

And there’s the first month of season 14 of “Jazz at the Station”! The music starts at 6:30 each evening and continues through 8:30. We’ll be out on the patio whenever possible, but if necessary we’ll move inside to our elegant dining room. We’ll make sure that all who come down to Resto Gare to enjoy our jazz evenings have a safe experience as we meet or exceed all regulations for sanitizing and distancing. Seating will be limited based on government regulation so we do suggest that you make your reservations asap. Call us at 204-237-7072. Always plenty of free parking next to our famous Train Car! Join us every Thursday for live jazz with Resto Gare’s “Jazz at the Station”!

Brian Chipney, our music coordinator is working on an exciting lineup of Winnipeg’s best.
